Created by Tesco, a major retailer spread worldwide, the Nurture Standard applies to agricultural products focusing on fresh products. It aims to assure product quality, freshness and an environmental responsible production.
To promote continual improvement, producers are classified in “Bronze”, “Silver” and “Gold” categories and encouraged to rectify its practices to reach the “Gold” status.
This certification is mandatory to achieve the highly desirable TESCO market. Furthermore, Tesco Nurture is recognised by other major retailers worldwide, most of them demanding similar requirements. With that said, implementing the Tesco Nurture standard it’s an effective way to overcome trade barriers and boost exports.
